WHEN TO BREATHE.
Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 12:40PM Well, aside from always, you should breathe in the following fashion during weightlifting:
- When using machines, exhale as the weight is being raised, inhale as the weight is being lower back to the stack.
- When using free weights, exhale when the primary muscle is shortening (concentric or positive phase), inhale when the primary muscle is lengthening (eccentric or negative phase).
- As a rule, until you get the form and the motion down, just breathe steadily over the course of the set and don’t hold your breath.
